/3D. Here’s where I got stuck. This is what I would call it my own private semi-Natick, a nod to the term coined by Michael Sharp, who writes about crossword puzzles under the pseudonym Rex Parker. on his blog. A Natick refers to two proper nouns that cross but are “unguessable” because they are obscure (to the solver). Since only one of these (3D) is a proper noun, I don’t know if it fully qualifies, but it was the toughest crossing for me in the grid. I probably would have had an easier time had I read the entire clue for 3D. My eyes read “___ St. Brown, N.F.L. star” and neglected to absorb the latter part of the clue, which included his nickname, “Sun God.” I knew that the mythical AMON-RA is known as the Sun God, so I should have been able to guess that one even though I don’t follow football.
