Solution: Mowgli's teacher in "The Jungle Book" - NYT Crossword

“Mowgli’s teacher in ‘The Jungle Book.’” It comes from Kipling or Disney, but otherwise, I haven’t a clue. Kipling was a “Raj orphan,” the children of colonial officials who were shipped back to England on their own at a tender age, presumably to get an education. The children of that era that you read about were entrusted to foster families for years, some of them notorious caretakers who did anything but. I raise the issue because, in looking up Mowgli as I was writing this, I learned that he, too, was a foster child, a human raised by wolves.
