Solution: Weapon now known as an LGM-118 Peacekeeper - NYT Crossword

My kneejerk response to weapons in puzzles is negative because I find them disturbing, but that’s a little escapist on my part, and when I looked into this factoid, I found it interesting. The “Weapon now known as an LGM-118 Peacekeeper” is an MX MISSILE; MX initially denoted “Missile, Experimental,” as this rocket went through development in the 1970s. Each missile could carry several nuclear warheads and deliver them to multiple locations, which makes the “Peacekeeper” part of its moniker seem dystopian, but some credit the scariest arms with being most responsible for defusing the Cold War.
