Solution: Textile made using bobbins - NYT Crossword

You have to get through a lot of pop culture and harsh dystopian references to get to a good old-fashioned textile entry, sometimes. It’s worth it. This entry is a debut and I’d never heard of it, PILLOW LACE, but it’s absolutely “a thing.” It’s not the lace that edges a pillow case, but lace that’s made by using pins to create an elaborate pattern in a pillow or soft padding, then wrapping threaded bobbins around the pins to create strips of lace. This was a colonial skill; a yard of lace, in the mid-1700s, was worth a cord of wood or 16 pounds of sheep’s wool. Doesn’t look too hard, right?
